Physical and Mental Wellbeing Help Strengthen
Every Community

At San Francisco Community Acupuncture, we provide quality acupuncture treatments in a quiet, group setting in comfy, new recliner chairs.

Our fee is based on a sliding-scale ranging from $30-$50, with an additional one-time paperwork processing charge of $10 for the first visit. You decide what you can afford within that range.

Our acupuncture clinic is located in San Francisco’s Mission district. We offer our patients several options for treatments including private sessions.

How should I prepare for my acupuncture treatment?

It is not recommended to receive treatment if you are very hungry and/or extremely tired. Therefore, patients should have a small meal or snack before the appointment and wear comfortable clothing. Please let us know if you are pregnant or have a pacemaker so appropriate acupuncture points can be selected. In addition, please have list of any medications you are taking.

Do the needles hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very thin and are not painful like hypodermic needles. There can be a sensation of warmth or heaviness at the insertion point but most patients find that there is no discomfort. The needles are retained for 20-30 minutes while you relax.

How are the acupuncture points chosen?

Each point has a specific function and indication. Based on your health history and present symptoms combined with your Chinese Medicine Diagnosis, the appropriate acupuncture points are chosen. The points may be distributed over the entire body.

What will I feel after the treatment?

This will vary for each patient. Most people feel very relaxed and sometimes euphoric. It is advised to refrain from vigorous activities for 2 hours after your treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed varies from person to person. Important factors include the duration and severity of your health condition as well as consistency of treatment. Two to three treatments may be sufficient to treat an acute condition and a series of 8-15 may be needed to resolve a more chronic condition.

Are the herbal treatments necessary?

Herbal formulas compliment an acupuncture treatment and are encouraged but they are not required. Each herbal formula is made to treat your specific constitution and conditions.

Do you accept insurance?

More and more insurance companies are covering acupuncture services. If you think your health plan may cover acupuncture, we can give you a receipt for you to submit to your insurance company. We do not bill insurance directly for community acupuncture, however.
